This week we’re going to talk about going with the flow: your menstrual flow. If you are like me, you have probably experienced the full spectrum of flows, ranging from minor discomfort to hellishly disruptive. As in, “Didn’t I just change my tampon/pad? WTF, simmer down uterus!”
Nodding you head? Hopefully, this week’s video can help comfort you during the occasional cycle when you experience heavy bleeding.* I’m sharing three yoga poses that may ease cramping and heavy flow. Don’t worry these postures don’t require much effort! There are two seated postures and one standing pose (using the wall for support).
I know, I know, you probably don’t feel like moving when you’re menstruating. But I am sure that you would want to feel better. Doing a few poses could lift your spirits just enough so that you can get up and make yourself a nourishing cup of tea. Or, at the very least, move your butt from the bedroom to the living room. he he
If you found this useful, please share this video with the women in your life. And if you are interested in reading more about yoga and women’s health, I highly recommend The Woman’s book of Yoga & Health by Linda Sparrowe and Patricia Walden. My copy is covered with sticky notes from years of consistent reference! It’s a beautiful book, and an amazing resource for women of all ages. The author has included yoga sequences for an array of maladies including migraines, suppressed immunity, and back pain.
I would love to hear from you. How do you take care of yourself during “that time of the month”?
Peace & Love,
*Important Note: A heavy flow and extreme pain is not something to ignore. Monitor your cycle and seek the guidance of your physician if you are in constant debilitating pain and/or experience very heavy bleeding. It could be the sign of a serious condition.
